COVID-19 Response
We recognise that the academic years of 2019-20 and 2020-21 were unusual and challenging for our pupils for many different reasons. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our children missed a significant period of their education in school.
In order to address the gaps in our pupils' learning, our staff have worked hard to plan for the year ahead. Teaching teams have identified curriculum objectives that were not adequately covered in the previous year and shared this with their colleagues to ensure that no stone is left unturned and gaps are addressed. When looking at long term planning and year group newsletters here on the website, you might notice that some objectives are in purple. Purple objectives are missed objectives from the previous year group that teaching staff have planned to cover in addition to the statutory curriculum objectives they will cover in their new year group.
The government have issued guidance to schools to advise that they ensure 'the curriculum remains broad and ambitious'. For this reason, we are consciously not narrowing our curriculum and are still planning for our pupils to be taught a wide range of subjects. Within these subjects, we are making use of existing flexibilities to create time to cover the most important missed content of the curriculum. For example, teachers are ensuring that there are opportunities for children to develop their reading and writing skills in foundation subjects (such as history and geography).
In the event that a pupil cannot attend school (for example if they test positive for Covid-19 or need to isolate) teachers will ensure that tasks are uploaded onto Google Classroom so that the child can continue to learn from home during that time. The activities will be planned according to the learning taking place in school so that no child misses out.
In the event that the whole school has to close, we will follow our digital learning policy and all learning will be available online through Google Classroom. The full policy and further details on what this will look like is outlined in the documents attached below.
