Alexander McLeod Primary School

Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to the Alexander McLeod Primary School website where we aim to provide you with an insight into our school life and community. We are a diverse and inclusive, 3-form entry primary school located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

This school provides an exceptional education. Leaders have very high expectations for all pupils. The school has developed a highly ambitious curriculum. It uses the strong expertise of curriculum leaders to get underneath the national curriculum and build knowledge throughout the pupils’ journey through the school. Ofsted 2025
At Alexander McLeod, we pride ourselves on having exceptionally high standards for all our pupils with regards to their learning, behaviour and overall conduct. We aim to nurture children to become responsible and influential citizens of the local community and beyond.

As a values-led school, our ethos is rooted in CARING: Community, Aspiration, Respect, Inclusion, Nurture and Growth. These values are not simply words; they underpin every aspect of school life and shape the culture we strive to create each day.

We work intentionally to ensure that children understand the importance of living out these core values. Through our curriculum, daily interactions and wider opportunities, pupils are encouraged to demonstrate aspiration in their learning, respect in their relationships, and inclusion in the way they treat others. Equally, we promote a strong sense of community, provide nurture where it is needed, and support every child’s growth — academically, socially and emotionally.

We have designed a highly-engaging and creative, enquiry-based learning curriculum that draws upon the National Curriculum for guidance. With the enquiry-based learning approach, children have greater input in developing their own learning journeys.  Exciting, cross-curricular topics are carefully and skilfully planned by expert teachers aimed at promoting a love of learning and developing a greater understanding of the world we live in. We encourage children to become critical thinkers. We place a great emphasis on nurturing a love of learning and challenging all our pupils to become the best learners they can be. Educational visits are planned throughout the year to enhance the quality of the learning with children being able to suggest visits they believe would deepen their understanding. Residentials across Key Stage 2 are designed to develop independence and resilience in our pupils.

Throughout their time with us, we provide a range of opportunities – including peer mentoring, pupil collaboration for learning projects and a thriving Junior Leadership Team – to ensure that pupils are heard and know that their opinions are valued.

Partnerships with parents and carers are essential and we feel it is exceptionally important that you have a voice within the school. Our team of approachable and friendly staff are always on hand to listen to you and discuss any queries you may have. Through regular communication, parent workshops and coffee mornings, we aim to develop a strong relationship with you all.

In January 2025, for the first time in its long history, Alexander McLeod Primary School was graded Outstanding across all areas by Ofsted.

The report highlighted the school’s exceptional environment for learning, noting:

“Pupils enjoy coming to school. They are keen to learn, take pride in their work and describe their teachers as being ‘fun and kind.’ Pupils behave with high levels of respect for each other.”

It also praised the school’s ambitious curriculum:

“The school has developed a highly ambitious curriculum. It uses the strong expertise of curriculum leaders to build knowledge throughout the pupils’ journey through the school.”

At Alexander McLeod, our ambition is clear: for every child to be the very best they can be. We are committed to helping each pupil thrive academically, socially and emotionally, so they leave us confident and well prepared for the next stage of their journey.

This is made possible through the strong partnership we share with our parents and carers, our collaboration with local schools, and the dedication and passion of our staff. Together, we continue to strive for excellence for every child at Alexander McLeod.
