Year 4 Teacher & Leader of Learning

My teaching journey began when I volunteered at my local primary school. I then worked as a learning support assistant for two years before completing my PGCE at Brunel University. From that moment, I knew I had found the career I was passionate about.
 
I have been a class teacher at Alexander McLeod Primary School since 2017 and have taught across Lower and Upper Key Stage 2. I am currently the Phase Leader for Lower Key Stage 2, where I enjoy supporting both pupils and colleagues to achieve their full potential. I previously led Science and PSHE, where I introduced the Science Enquiry Process and statutory Relationships and Sex Education curriculum alongside our PSHE Journey Books.
 
I have high expectations for every child and firmly believe that all pupils can succeed when they feel supported, challenged and inspired. I am passionate about creating engaging lessons that spark curiosity and foster a love of learning, ensuring that every subject is enjoyable, meaningful and accessible to all children.

Year 4 Teacher & Music Lead

I am Magnolia’s class teacher and I lead music across the school. I have worked with and taught children across Key Stage 1 & 2 and have previously worked with some of our more vulnerable children. I have high learning expectations of all the children within my care. I am very passionate about children learning at their own pace and ensure inclusivity within my setting. I have a high regard for children and adults social and emotional wellbeing. As a result, I like to promote positive and healthy mindsets across the school.
Being part of a large family myself, including 6 children of my own, I understand the importance of individuality. My class is an extension of my family and each member is given an opportunity to shine.

Year 4 Teacher & DT Lead

I am Mrs Barker, the teacher of Juniper class. I am also currently the Design and Technology Lead.

I have over 20 years of teaching experience, mainly within Inner London, across all the year groups within the primary setting. I have a degree in environmental science and as part of this I spent a year working in a secondary school. It was this experience that inspired me to become a teacher
Previously, I have been the leader of both KS1 and KS2. In addition to this, I have been the leader of maths, science, geography, and PSHE.

I am extremely passionate about teaching with high expectations of all the children within my care. I enjoy being in the classroom supporting the children to grow both academically and socially. 

Growing up in the Yorkshire Dales has given me a love of outdoor activities. Away from school, you will find me running , hiking, cycling with my two young boys.

Our Learning

Year 4 is an incredibly exciting year as the children move into their second year within the lower key stage two phase. Our focus this year will be to teach the year 4 curriculum in order to ensure that children are working at the expected standard for their age by the end of the 2022/23 academic year. However, we will also be revising some of the key learning within the year 3 curriculum; this will ensure that any gaps within their knowledge concerning year 3 expectations have been closed and that children are fully able to access the learning intended for a year 4 child.

Over the course of the year, children in year 4 will be exposed to a range of fantastic core texts during our English lessons.

In year 4, we intend to create confident mathematicians who have a solid understanding of place value and are able to adopt a range of strategies when problem solving. By the end of year 4, children will be familiar with formal written methods for all four operations of number and be able to fluently recall times tables up to 12 x 12.
